Definition
Product/service description explains what you're selling, who it helps, and what problem it solves, appearing on websites and sales materials to answer customer needs.
Why it matters
Your product description directly affects your conversion rate - the percentage of visitors who become customers. A dental practice in Phoenix rewrote their teeth whitening description to focus on benefits instead of technical specs. Before: "Professional-grade hydrogen peroxide treatment, 45-minute sessions." After: "Get visibly whiter teeth in under an hour - perfect before job interviews, weddings, or family photos. Most patients see results 3-4 shades lighter." Their booking rate jumped from 2.3% to 6.8%, adding roughly $3,200 in monthly revenue from the same website traffic.
Example
A marketing consultant in Seattle was selling a "Monthly Marketing Strategy Package" with this description: "Comprehensive monthly marketing consulting including strategy development, campaign planning, and performance analysis. Leveraging industry best practices and data-driven insights."
She rewrote it to: "Get a complete marketing plan every month - no guesswork, no wasted ad spend. You'll know exactly what to post, where to spend your budget, and which leads to follow up. Includes one 90-minute strategy session and a step-by-step action plan you can hand to your team or VA. Average clients see 40% more qualified leads within 60 days."
Result: Her inquiry rate increased from 8 to 23 qualified leads per month, and her close rate improved from 25% to 40% because prospects understood exactly what they were buying before the sales call.
How to apply
- Start with the main benefit or result your customer gets, not a feature list
- Specify who this is for (industry, business size, or specific problem)
- Include 1-2 concrete numbers that prove value (time saved, revenue increase, problem frequency)
- List 3-5 specific deliverables or what's included so buyers know exactly what they're getting
- Address the most common objection or question in the description itself
- End with what happens next after purchase (timeline, first step, or quick win)
